Dr Nuttall has an Engineering Degree in Environmental Technologies and a PhD in Geography. He also has over 26 years experience across issues including development; Geo-Information Systems; politics; public-private and UN-public-private partnerships; sustainable development; the information society; decentralized cooperation; local and regional authorities; access to basic services; innovative partnerships; associations of cities and regions; and, climate change. Prior to joining the R20, Christophe served as the Director of the Hub for Innovative partnerships for the UNDP for 8 years, leading the development of partnerships with local/regional authorities in line with the UN Reform. He has developed a number of initiatives, including the Territorial Approach to Climate Change, which aims at charting a new low-carbon route to development at sub national level with official recognition by UNFCCC’s parties at Cancun COP 16. At the UN Institute for Training and Research, Christophe was responsible for the development of a global network of training centres for local and regional authorities, and led the International Multi-Partnerships Initiative on Access to Basic Services. In January 2012, Christophe was nominated first Executive Director of the R20 following on exchanges between former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, and approved by the R20’s members and partners.
