Recognition for commitment to climate protection and civic engagement
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Berlin Hertie School in recognition of his significant contributions to governance and climate action. We are beyond thrilled, especially as it also recognizes our work at the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative. Monika Langthaler, Director of the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, says “This honour from the Hertie School reflects Arnold Schwarzenegger’s long-term commitment to creating a sustainable future and inspiring others to take action. We at the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative are proud to work with him every day to make the world greener and healthy.”
Numerous guests at ceremony
The award ceremony was held at the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany with an audience of over 300 guests, including German and international journalists, Austrian Ambassador Michael Linhart, the rock band The BossHoss, and pianist and political activist Igor Levitt. German Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action held the laudatory speech and commended Arnold Schwarzenegger as a man of decency.
During his term as Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger introduced pioneering environmental legislation including the Global Warming Solutions Act (AB32) to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Schwarzenegger has been vocal about banning fossil fuels and stopping pollution ever since. Since 2017 he has been hosting the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT, the annual international climate conference in Vienna.
