The mountains, synonymous with Tyrol, shape not only our cultural landscape and the habitat of many unique animal and plant species but also serve as a refuge for those seeking relaxation and as an arena for outdoor enthusiasts. Recognizing their importance, Arnold Schwarzenegger, through his environmental initiative, supports mountain rescue efforts.
For the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service and its approximately 4,600 volunteer members, the mountains are the realm of their dedicated activities. These mountain rescuers are on duty 24/7, 365 days a year, ready to save people from alpine emergencies. In 2024 alone, they responded to approximately 3,000 emergencies. Their exceptional dedication and motivation shine through as they devote their free time in service of the community and helping those in need. Deeply rooted in the organization is a profound respect for nature and a strong awareness of its beauty and the dangers it holds.
Climate change, however, is significantly impacting rescue operations. A growing number of accidents are caused by climate-related natural events such as rockfall, avalanches, glacier melt, and storms.
To best prepare mountain rescuers for their often dangerous operations in the mountains, the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Academy was established in 2022. In 2024 alone, the Academy conducted 145 courses were held for around 3,000 participants. Together with experts, a comprehensive training program in alpine technology, medicine, and the canine unit is developed each year, always adapting to new challenges. Topics such as risk management, team spirit, personal responsibility, and the responsible use of resources are fundamental components of the training program.
By contributing, you help support the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Academy continue offering comprehensive training and further education to its 4,600 mountain rescuers. Your support enables the Academy to fund trainers, adapt training content and teaching materials to evolving requirements, and maintain a professional training center for the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service.
At the upcoming Weißwurst Party at Stanglwirt in Tyrol, the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service will be presented as part of the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative. We have the chance to win the public vote and, with your support, further expand the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Academy!
