For the first time, a dedicated environmental expo showcasing innovative solutions will accompany the climate conference on June 20th.

On June 20, 2024, Arnold Schwarzenegger will convene his annual climate conference, the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT (AWS), gathering high-ranking national and international guests at the Vienna Hofburg for the eighth consecutive year. This year’s theme, “Be Useful: Tools for a Healthy Planet,” inspired by Schwarzenegger’s latest book title, underscores the importance of actionable measures for climate and environmental protection.

Aligned with the conference theme, a captivating addition to this year’s event is the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT Solutions Expo. Featuring numerous exhibition stands from companies, NGOs, start-ups, and organizations, the expo will showcase a diverse array of innovative environmental solutions on the ground floor of the Hofburg. Open to all visitors free of charge, the expo encourages active engagement in the movement for a sustainable future. It serves as a platform to discover and promote practical approaches and tools for environmental health, aiming to inspire a broad audience for climate protection and demonstrate achievable possibilities.

Diverse Guest List from Various Sectors

In addition to host Arnold Schwarzenegger, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will once again serve as the conference patron in 2024. Notable Austrian political figures including Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler, Federal Minister Magnus Brunner, and Vienna City Councillor Jürgen Czernohorszky are expected to attend. Leading Partners of the conference, Klemens Hallmann from Hallmann Holding and Jan Jenisch from Holcim, will represent the business community. Visitors can also anticipate meeting renowned personalities such as Andy Schleck, the 2010 Tour de France winner, and Nigerian businesswoman and entrepreneur Omoyemi Akerele. To kick off the afternoon program, the band ‘The BossHoss’ will set the stage for a series of presentations on climate action heroes and success stories from around the world.

From Financing to Culture: Strategies for Effective Climate Protection

Content-wise, a panel discussion on green investments will address overcoming financial barriers to climate protection measures and explore how various sectors including companies, politicians, cities, and the arts and culture sector can contribute to climate protection. Discussions will also focus on enhancing existing instruments. The afternoon session will feature inspiring stories and innovative personalities, making climate protection tangible and actionable.

Monika Langthaler, Director of the AWS and the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, underscores the importance of collective action: “I am convinced that we are the first generation capable of achieving sustainable living while maintaining a high quality of life. To accelerate progress towards this goal, it is essential to motivate as many people as possible to join us on this journey,” says Langthaler. For eight years, the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative has been advancing this mission by showcasing successful projects, measures, and inspiring personalities at the AUSTRIAN WORLD SUMMIT and this year’s Expo.
